Health Care Simulation Coordinator

SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing Education
BASIC FUNCTION: Nine months, full-time, with possible supplemental summer hours. This position includes, but is not limited to, shared responsibility for classroom (both face-to-face and online) instruction, lab and clinical instruction, as well as continued curriculum and program updating and development. The initial work of the position will entail the creation of simulated learning opportunities that will replace and supplement clinical and preceptorship learning within the nursing curriculum. Eventually, the position will work with health care programming budgets, the effective utilization of advisory committees, equipment utilizations and updates, and other responsibilities as appropriate to all the simulated learning opportunities within all the health care programs of the College.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required – Bachelors of Science in Nursing minimum with Annual Progress towards Masters of Science in Nursing.
Three years of clinical nursing experience.
Basic computer skills.
Preferred – Masters of Science in Nursing.
Bilingual in English and Spanish languages.
One year of simulation instruction experience.
The successful applicant for this position will be required to meet and maintain all applicable Iowa Board of Nursing criteria.
DESIRED QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS:
1. Broad knowledge of simulation equipment, a command of research-based best teaching practices within the simulated learning environment, and a strong desire to teach students in the simulated learning environment.
2. Broad knowledge of nursing at the BSN-MSN level with a solid grasp of applications in acute care, long term care, and various other healthcare settings.
3. Ability to work with a wide range of faculty and students in the labs, classrooms, online, and clinical settings.
4. Ability to provide effective instruction across the entire nursing curriculum core to a broad spectrum of traditional and nontraditional students with an eagerness eventually to teach students in other health care programs, too.
5. Understanding of and agreement with the philosophy, conceptual framework, and learning outcomes of the nursing program and eventually of all other health care programs.
6. Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct effective simulated instruction in all assigned areas, using approved scenarios.
2. Develop and maintain current learning outcomes for simulated learning scenarios.
3. Coordinate current and future scenarios with faculty to meet program learning outcomes.
4. Notify the Director of Nursing Education or the individual in charge as early as possible of any inability to direct a simulation.
5. Measure and evaluate student progress and maintain accurate grade computations. Submit grade reports to the designated individual within designated timelines.
6. Attend all faculty and division meetings and serve on College committees as appropriate.
7. Attend all health care program advisory committees, sector board meetings, and similar meetings as directed by the supervisor.
8. Work with all grants connected to simulated learning.
9. Recommend simulation equipment purchases to the supervisor.
10. Counsel, advise, and/or refer students as appropriate.
11. Maintain evidence of competency achievement (knowledge and application of knowledge) and participate in professional development activities.
12. Assist in student recruitment and program promotions.
13. Submit requisitions for needed supplies to immediate supervisor.
14. Serve as a resource person for students and graduates regarding job opportunities.
15. Enforce all Northwest Iowa Community College student policies.
16. Provide students written learning objectives, methods of evaluation, and grading practices.
17. Conduct effective instruction in all assigned areas as assigned by supervisor.
18. Serve on College committees as assigned.
19. Other duties as directed by the supervisor.
WAGE/SALARY RANGE: $42,000-$44,000
